Learning Music Instills Patience & Discipline

Learning music teaches children about delayed gratification.  Learning flute, for example, has a steep learning curve. Before you can make a single sound, you must first learn how to hold the flute, how to stand correctly, and even how to shape your mouth in order to produce a good sound.

Learning an instrument teaches children to persevere through hours, months, and sometimes years of practice before they reach certain goals, such as performing with a group reaching certain standards for exams.

Group lessons, also improve patience levels, as children must patiently await their turn to play individually. And in waiting for their turns and listening to their peers play, children also learn how to show their peers respect, and also how to be attentive.  Learning music requires significant levels of concentration, training children to focus their attention for sustained periods.
