Note From A Grateful Music Teacher

Children's Music

In my 20 years as a music teacher, one of the greatest joys I experience is when I hear a child tell me that they played a tune for their Granny or Grandad. It’s not always academic excellence that is the ultimate goal! It’s these tender moments that are shared within a family home that no stage can offer.

The little fingers that fumble over the notes, the exclaims of ‘Wait! Can I start that again?’ and the pride in themselves as they reach that final note. Since the arrival of Covid, I have been humbled by the messages and videos parents have sent me of their children’s musical moments at home, in particular playing for their Grandparents. The joy that this brings to both child and Grandparent is immeasurable.

The look of love and pride in their faces is one that I am honoured to be a part of. So let the music play on! For whoever it may be for in your life…

I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music.
