Why Learn Music? ~ Music Helps the Brain to Develop

Music Enhances Brain Function

Studies in neuroscience show that music can enhance brain function in children. Music and musical activities stimulate the brain, and this leads to an improvement in brain structure as new neural connections are formed.

Several studies have shown that the understanding of musical language can aid a child’s overall mental development. Research shows that students who study music are more likely to achieve better results in school.

Further research has proven that studying music physically develops the left side of the brain which is involved with processing language and reasoning, assists with sound recognition, and teaches rhythm and rhyme. Songs can also help children remember information (just think of the Alphabet song!).

Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.
